Origins
The National Citizen Party grew directly out of the movement that reshaped Bangladeshi politics in 2024. In February 2025, the Students Against Discrimination platform and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee formally merged to launch the NCP, with Nahid Islam as founding convener and Akhter Hossen as member secretary.
Ideology and platform
The party positions itself at the political centre, emphasising reformism, pluralism, and what it calls a "Bangladeshpontha" outlook — a governing philosophy the party frames as rooted in Bangladesh's own history and culture rather than alignment with any foreign power. Its founding leadership has called for a new democratic constitution, describing this as the foundation of a "second republic."
Structure
Beyond its central leadership, the NCP has organised wings for students (Jatiya Chhatra Shakti), youth (Jatiya Jubo Shakti), women (Jatiya Nari Shakti), workers (Jatiya Sramik Shakti), and farmers (Jatiya Krishak Shakti). The party is headquartered at the Rupayan Trade Center in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
Electoral standing
The NCP registered with the Election Commission in November 2025 and contested the 2026 general election, winning seats in the Jatiya Sangsad and forming part of an eleven-party alliance.
